ESSA Requirements

Teachers

There are 5 ways to be Highly Qualified under federal ESSA guidelines:

  1. Bachelor or higher degree in the subject area
  2. CDE teaching license endorsement in the subject area
  3. Pass a PRAXIS exam in the subject area
  4. National Board Certification in the subject area
  5. 24+ semester hours from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution, well distributed within the subject area

Coaches (Academic & ELA)

There are two ways to be qualified:

  1. 48 or more semester hours from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning (community or junior college, or four-year university)

    OR
     
  2. High School Diploma (or GED), AND passing the following three Work Keys tests (tests can be taken at the Community College of Denver or the Emily Griffith Campus):
  • Reading (minimum score = 4)
  • Business Writing (minimum score = 3)
  • Math (minimum score = 4)
