ESSA Requirements
Teachers
There are 5 ways to be Highly Qualified under federal ESSA guidelines:
- Bachelor or higher degree in the subject area
- CDE teaching license endorsement in the subject area
- Pass a PRAXIS exam in the subject area
- National Board Certification in the subject area
- 24+ semester hours from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution, well distributed within the subject area
Coaches (Academic & ELA)
There are two ways to be qualified:
- 48 or more semester hours from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning (community or junior college, or four-year university)
OR
- High School Diploma (or GED), AND passing the following three Work Keys tests (tests can be taken at the Community College of Denver or the Emily Griffith Campus):
- Reading (minimum score = 4)
- Business Writing (minimum score = 3)
- Math (minimum score = 4)
